INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of this module is to explore the application of evidence base nursing knowledge, skills and professional, ethical and legal principles necessary to develop the fundamentals of Adult field nursing care, across the life span
• Application of the NMC Code, standards and advice including The Code: Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, and Guidance for Students of Nursing and Midwifery. This will include professional behaviour, public protection and professional self-regulation
• Protection and safeguarding of vulnerable adults - legal frameworks and local policies
• Application of nursing law, and ethics to adult nursing
• Care delivery within a variety of health and social care settings and the home
• Contexts of adult nursing care, surgery, medical, recovery
• The fundamentals of applicable legislation
• Working in partnership with service users, carers, families, groups, communities and organisations
• An introduction to a range of communication skills.
• Introduction to nursing roles, models and contexts – recognition of the needs of all those who require care, including babies, children and young people, pregnant and postnatal women, people with mental health problems, people with physical disabilities, people with learning disabilities, older people, and people with long term problems such as cognitive impairment – EU Directives
• An introduction to frameworks of care, and approaches to providing nursing care e.g. nursing process and nursing models, benchmarks and standards, essential skills clusters, National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines
• An introduction to the concepts of risk, risk assessment and management, to include factors affecting the safety of health and social care professionals, service users, carers and significant others, in hospital and home environments
• Person centred care that explores values based approaches, recovery and social inclusion, challenges inequalities, stigma and discrimination
• Self-awareness, reflection and clinical supervision
• Individual learning styles
• Developing reflective practice.
• Understanding roles and responsibilities of other health and social care professionals and working with them collaboratively.
• Placement preparation and evaluation.
