INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the concept of using evidence as a basis of health care delivery in the twenty first century. It supports students in identifying what impacts on health at different levels (from global to individual), and develop an understanding of the roles of the health and social care practitioners who work within this sphere. In order to achieve this student’s will be expected to access evidence based material and identify how inter-professional working enhances the health of individuals and populations.

Content will include:
• Introduction to research methodology, design and purpose
• Developing the skill of using evidence to support practice
• Discussing inter-professional working as a concept
• Concepts of health, including models and approaches
• Understanding what is health
• Overview of public health as a concept
• Overview of health promotion as a concept
• Identification of a wide range of issues that impact on health, considering this from a global, national and local perspective
• Identification of the roles other health professionals have – understanding the concept of the multi-disciplinary team and wider health community, the role of voluntary sector
• Consider the knowledge and skills that might be required by the health care professionals and the wider health and social care team to address health issues
• Identification of the services available in local areas to promote physical and mental health across the age continuum

This module introduces and launches the concept of IPE and provides students with a workbook which will be used to capture evidence in support of developing an inter-professional approach to care over the three year programme.
