Pre-requisites: Enrolled on Nursing Associate programme

Admissions requirements: Employment with a relevant healthcare organisation. Access to practice learning environment as a trainee Nursing Associate.

Clinical Assessment of Practice - Pass/Refer/Fail (LO 5)

An assignment of 2000 word reflecting on an episode of practice utilising a recognised model (LO's 1, 2, 3 and 4) 100%

All elements of the assessment must be passed.
As this is part of a professionally accredited programme, no compensation will be considered.
Indicative Content
Application of the NMC Code and Guidance for Students of Nursing and Midwifery. This will include professional behaviour, public protection and professional self-regulation.
Application of duty of care, candour, equality and diversity and courage
Protection and safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children - legal frameworks and local policies
Principles of consent and confidentiality- including children, vulnerable adults and those who lack capacity
An introduction to frameworks of care, and approaches to providing nursing care e.g. benchmarks and standards, National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, NMC standards

Application of nursing, law and ethics to Nursing Associates
The fundamentals of applicable legislation including the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children Act 1989 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
Maintaining accurate records, confidentiality and storage to include Data Protection Act 1998
Apply the principles of health and safety regulations in maintaining safe work and care environments, identifying the need to make improvements and proactively responding to, and escalating, potential hazards
Consideration of health across the life span: children and adolescents, adults and older adults
Person centred care that explores values-based approaches, recovery and social inclusion, challenges inequalities, stigma and discrimination
Recognising and responding to the range of factors that affect communication e.g. pain, distress, mental health problems, age, cognitive impairment
Communication methods to include, communication tools, distraction and play, communication with sensory and cognitively impaired adults and children and when people are anxious, distressed or in pain
Introduction to nursing roles, models and contexts - recognition of the needs of all those who require care, including babies, children and young people, pregnant and postnatal women, people with mental health problems, people with physical disabilities, people with learning disabilities, older people, and people with long term problems such as cognitive impairment

The student will be working in a variety of clinical areas such as, the NHS, independent and voluntary sectors, providing nursing care to service users in hospital and at home
An introduction to the concepts of risk, risk assessment and management, to include factors affecting the safety of health and social care professionals, service users, carers and significant others, in hospital and home environments
