WEB DESCRIPTOR
This module aims to build your knowledge, experience and skills around children’s nursing care with a specific focus upon practical skills and reflective practice. The module links to your second practice learning period. You will undertake study related to the underpinning theory around common practical skills related to children’s nursing care alongside having the opportunity to develop those practical skills by undertaking simulated practice within the University Skills and Simulation Labs. You will begin to develop an understanding of evidence-based practice and practical skills that are required to fulfil the role of the children’s nurse.

Formative assessment and feedback from Academic Assessor regarding professional values and proficiency progression end of placement.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
Theory and practice:
Numeracy in nursing / drug calculations
Clinical Assessment – vital signs monitoring and use of PEWS including sepsis red flags
Assessment and management of deteriorating patients, pain assessment and response to uncontrolled symptoms and escalation using SBARD

Reflective practice
Placement preparation to include looking after yourself/resilience

Skills will be taught using simulation and in skills labs settings. Audio-visual presentations will also be used to enhance/embed these.
