Clinical practice assessment weighted at 0% pass/refer/fail (assessing LO's 2, 4 and 5)

1.5 HOUR EXAM weighted at 100% (addressing LO's 1, 3 and 4)

All elements of the assessment must be passed.

Formative Assessment:
Feedback through group discussions, mock exam, group and individual tutorial support and from mentors in clinical practice.
Indicative Content
The aim of the module is to apply the relevant nursing knowledge and skills necessary to enable the student to progress and work in a safe and increasingly confident way in children's nursing practice.

- Applying The Code: Standard of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives (NMC 2008) to children's nursing practice
- Applying recognised ethical and legal frameworks within children's nursing practice
- Evidence based practice and National and Local strategies related to the care of children and young people.
- Family centred care- involving the family
- Exploring compassion
- Provision of care with dignity including human rights, patient choice and diversity
- Exploring own values
- Recognition of and understanding behaviour and using appropriate strategies to provide support and to resolve conflict
- Documentation and record keeping
- Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the law and relevant ethical frameworks taking into account local protocols
- Communication strategies to aid nursing care delivery including involvement of the child in decision making
- Awareness of individual differences, capabilities and needs of children and their families including cultural, religious and spiritual beliefs.
- Commonly encountered conditions and treatments in children's nursing considering children's full range of health and dependency needs.

This module aims to help you progress and work in a safe and increasingly confident way in children’s nursing practice, building on skills gained during year one, as well as learning new skills and knowledge which can then be applied when caring for children in a range of settings. Throughout the module pathophysiology and therapeutic interventions will be integrated to develop your knowledge and understanding of the holistic care of children with specific conditions which you may encounter in practice.
