Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to help you to develop your professional, ethical and legal nursing practice. As part of this practice you will consider the facilitation of learning both for self and for others, focusing on health related learning for service users and carers and the facilitation of own lifelong learning in relation to developing competence and identified needs. The indicative content of the module includes:
Professional, legal and ethical:
Professional regulation and regulatory requirements
Current legislation, its application to safe practice and risk reduction,
Human and legal rights of service users and carers,
Statutory requirements in relation to vulnerable children and adults.

Ethical Issues in Clinical Practice
Record Keeping: Practical application
Facilitating learning
An introduction to how service users and their carers learn, including learning theory, learning styles, motivational theory, factors affecting learning, potential barriers and solutions to learning and behavioural change.
Working and communicating with individuals and groups to promote health and facilitate learning.
Models and frameworks to support public health, health promotion and health teaching
Planning, delivering and evaluating learning with service users
Information giving and awareness raising
Facilitating self learning and development:
Consideration of own learning styles and development. The role of the portfolio profile in guiding lifelong learning and CPD. Portfolio development including the development of reflective practice, analysis and use of a range of reflective models in reflective writing.
Managing self, challenging own practice, stress recognition, stress management,
Clinical supervision: Concepts, contracting and use within practice
Gaining and using feedback.

Module Additional Assessment Details
A Viva Voce examination (max 30mins) based on a profile of evidence selected from the student portfolio, which demonstrates learning outcomes 1,2,3, and 4. This evidence must include three pieces of written reflection related to development of professional nursing practice. One of three pieces must relate to a health promotion situation, which demonstrates learning outcome 3. This piece of written reflection and one other will be discussed during the viva voce exam.
Formative assessment will include:
Presentation of reflection on practice
Mentor feedback in practice
Presentation and review of student portfolio/reflective profile to personal tutor
Seminar presentations and discussions
