ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Nursing Associate Practice for part two will assess your performance across platforms 1-6 of the standards of proficiency. The majority of this assessment will take place in clinical practice. This is done through the PAD document which is a record of your progress in completing the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates (Learning Outcome 1 & 2).
To ensure that you are practising independently, with minimal supervision, your performance will be measured against the following criteria.
• Knowledge – you must have a sound knowledge base to support safe and effective practice and provide the rationale to support your decision making.
• Skills – you must be able to utilise a range of skills to deliver safe, person centred and evidence-based care competently and confidently in a range of contexts.
• Attitudes and Values – you must be able to demonstrate an understanding of professional roles and responsibilities within the multidisciplinary team. You should maximise any opportunities to extend your own knowledge as they present.
To accompany the assessment of your practice in the PAD, you must also successfully complete two episodes of care. Professionalism underpins all aspects of your performance during these observations. The aim of these assessments is to demonstrate your progression in applying aspects across the six platforms of proficiency for Nursing Associates (including appropriate skills from annexe A and B) (NMC 2018) and demonstrate how these are embedded within your practice. The Practice Assessor will grade these episodes of care against the provided grading criteria. Your work will also be subject to Academic Assessor scrutiny and sign off prior to final submission (Learning outcomes 2, 3 &4). The paperwork to accompany these are to be found in your PAD.
Episode of Care 1.
You will be given the opportunity to supervise and teach a junior learner/colleague in practice and provide a written reflection on this experience. Junior learner colleague refers to a nursing associate student, health care support worker or a person new to the care role. This needs to be based on the delivery of direct person-centred care.
Episode of Care 2.
You and your practice assessor/tutor/supervisors will identify an appropriate episode of direct care involving meeting the needs of either; a group of people receiving care or an individual with complex health care needs. Within this episode, you should demonstrate the skills needed to promote health and prevent ill health and be able to show your understanding of how to nurse commonly encountered presentations of disease.
ALL PARTS MUST BE PASSED.
