This module will develop your understanding of human factors, their impact on care and your role as a health professional in identifying, reporting and managing risk. You will consider how adverse events can be learnt from to inform both future practice and decision making to enhance patient safety.

During this module, members of our service user and carer group will be involved in scenario writing with the module team (for assessment) and also in teaching/sharing experiences related to patient safety.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of human factors and their impact on risk and decision making for patient safety.
2. Evaluate and analyse the concept of uncertainty and the management of risk, including evidence-based strategies to manage self and others
3. Demonstrate a critical awareness of organisational issues in assessing, monitoring and evaluating human factors and their impact on care including the principles of candour, courage and transparency recognising the impact of individual behaviour
4. Critically reflect on the role of health care professionals in identifying, reporting and managing risk, near miss, adverse events, errors in practice, critical major incidents and how to apply learning from these events.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Case review (field specific scenario) written assignment
Students will be provided with materials for the case review or case studies to appraise. This assessment will meet all learning outcomes. Formative feedback via group tutorials
