This module is designed to further develop your understanding and knowledge of cognitive behavioural interventions (CBI) by supporting you in the practical application of CBI in the context of your working practice.

The module enhances and extends your existing skills acquired through completion of the ‘Foundation Skills for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (15 credits) module and it is a prerequisite that you complete the ‘Foundation skills for CBT’ module before embarking on the Application of CBI.

The module adopts a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary approach, and facilitates learning in the cognitive-behavioural approach for a range of professions. Your learning will be facilitated by experienced clinical practitioners and lecturers. The module reflects National Guidelines for training in CBT for common mental health problems (Roth and Pilling 2008) and the content of the module is based on the knowledge, skills and competencies identified in the guidelines.

You will have the opportunity to explore and clarify your role and scope of practice with regards to CBI through a variety of learning experiences with students and peers from diverse practice backgrounds. This module provides an excellent foundation from which to pursue further study in cognitive behavioural therapy leading to possible accreditation.
