ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A case presentation to the clinical preceptor of a chosen patient's comprehensive or focused health assessment Pass/Fail 0% (contributes to the achievement of LO's 2, 3 and 4)

A viva voce exam will be held for twenty minutes where you will present a portfolio of evidence relating to learning outcomes. This will include an action plan to identify your future development needs based on your reflective practice (assessing all LO's) Weighted at 80%

A multiple choice question paper testing knowledge of systems including anatomy and physiology/pathophysiology/assessment process (contributes to the achievement of LO's 1 and 2) weighted at 20%

All 3 components of assessment must be passed

INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module enables students to gain and expand knowledge and skill in the performance of physical assessment across the lifespan, clinical decision making and the development of practice skills. Physical assessment skills development is based upon a systems approach which compares normal and abnormal findings from physical examination of the following:
Skin, Nails, Hair, Head, eyes, ears nose, throat and neck
Musculoskeletal system
Respiratory system
Female and male health
Cardio and peripheral vascular system
Neurological system and movement
Gastro intestinal
Mental health assessment
History taking will be an integral part of the module
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)
Five 6 hour Face to Face Study Days which will consist of:
12 hours Structured Lectures
15 hours Skills lab supervised practice
3 Hours Tutorial

Guided Independent Study Hours: (270 hours) which will consist of:
130 Independent researching material and reading
100 hours Assessment preparation
40 hours Learning with preceptor

To gain the Advanced University Diploma in Enhanced Physical Healthcare Skills for Mental Health Nurses you must successfully complete this module and the Assessment and management of the acutely ill adult module.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Critically analyse the factors that impact on the physical health of people with mental health problems. (Analysis)

2. Apply client sensitive physical assessment skills utilising knowledge and an understanding of applied pathophysiology (Knowledge and Understanding, Learning)

3. Summarise and disseminate the findings of physical assessment to the preceptor and other members of the health care team, demonstrating problem solving and decision making skills

4. Demonstrate an understanding of limitations of knowledge and skills when undertaking physical assessments (Learning)
