Module Indicative Content
Students will be facilitated to explore the following areas:
- Introduction to the history and social construction of child abuse.
- Legislative framework underpinning safeguarding and protecting children.
- Prevention and recognition of child abuse and neglect.
- Process and practice of responding to child abuse and neglect.
- Analysis of research and inquiries pertaining to safeguarding and protecting children.
- Working within a multi-agency arena to safeguard and protect children.
- Working with and managing risk in vulnerable children (domestic violence, substance misuse and mental illness).
- The roles and responsibilities of multi-agency professionals who work collaboratively to safeguard and protect children.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A case study which critically evaluates the impact of multi-agency working and safeguarding children processes which concludes with the synthesis of a strategy aimed at improving an aspect of multi-agency working highlighted in the case study (addressing LO's 1, 2 and 3)
A 30 minute SEMINAR PRESENTATION
An individual presentation of a serious case review to last 30 minutes which includes 5 minutes of questions (addressing LO's 2, 3 and 4)
Both elements of assessment must be passed
Formative Assessment:
Formative feedback will be provided through group discussions and tutorial support.
