Module Learning Strategies
Learning is facilitated via an interactive CD Rom (CBT Praxis). The CD Rom comprises16 sections that are worked through systematically. The CD Rom includes video clips of specific CBT skills and includes questions to be answered at the end of each section.
Learning strategies during the 13 hours contact time will comprise the following:
Clinical supervision in small groups (2-3 students) - (69%)
Launch of interactive CD Rom and module assignment - (23%)
Group tutorial (8%)
The 137 hours of independent study time will be available for:
- working through the CD Rom activities and application of CBT in practice
- Reading and assignment preparation

At least 2 years post registration in an appropriate professional field

Agreement from employer that audio taping can take place in line with organisational policies
Module Indicative Content
The CBT model, The role of the therapeutic relationship and collaborative working in CBT, assessment and case formulation including development of problem lists,
Process of CBT and session format, Levels of Cognition: thoughts, beliefs,schemas. CBT model of depression:cognitive triad and unhelpful thinking. CBT model of panic: maintenance factors and safety behaviours. Behavioural strategies and interventions:activity schedules, graded tasks, graded exposure, behavioural tasks.
Working with thoughts: eliciting negative automatic thoughts and thought evaluation.
Working with conditional beliefs and belief modification.
Relapse prevention, Evaluating CBT
Professional and ethical issues, Application and critique of CBT
Module Additional Assessment Details
Assessment of the module will comprise:
3,000 word critical analysis of a recorded (audio or video) CBT session including an evaluation of the sessions relationship to the wider CBT process (tape to be submitted with assignment)
Formative: completion of all sections of the interactive CD ROM indicated by correct answers to multiple choice questions at the end of each section (46 questions in total)
