Module Additional Assessment Details
A case presentation to the clinical preceptor of a chosen patient's presentation in relation to at least two diagnostic tests, and how these tests lead to a possible clinical diagnosis (contributes to the achievement of LO's 1, 2, 3, and 4)
A two two hour (120 mins) unseen short answer examination testing a demonstration, using a logical and systematic approach, the ability to correctly interpret a set of physiological data linked to a brief patient history (contributes to the achievement of LO's 1 and 2)
Both parts must be passed

Module Indicative Content
This module enables students to gain and expand knowledge and skill in the performance of clinical diagnostics, clinical decision making and the development of practice skills. Skills development is based upon common diagnostic tests that compares normal and abnormal findings.
- Problem solving and decision making
- Arterial Blood Gas Analysis;
- 12 Lead ECG;
- Lung Function Tests;
- Biochemistry,
- Haematology and
- Bacteriology results;
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Chest X-rays;
- Appropriate Anatomy and physiology (Pathophysiology);
- History taking will be an integral part of the module
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Students wishing to undertake this module as a stand alone must have written support from their employer and an identified clinical preceptor
