INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module has been designed to enable you to develop a research proposal to enable you to gain an in-depth critical understanding of the evidence base underpinning a chosen area of current nursing practice. You will be required to demonstrate that you understand research methodology and theory, in order to construct a valid and robust proposal.
You will be guided through the process of how to review the literature, frame a research question based on your findings, devise and justify a research design based on a chosen methodology and be able to reflect on your approach and your positionality in the process. You will consider the role and meaning of data, including when and how it should be collected, monitored and analysed. The proposal will consider the ethical aspects of conducting an inquiry within the sphere of healthcare.
The module will also explore the use of specific methods commonly used in research, related to sampling, data collection and data analysis.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Develop a research proposal based on an agreed topic which includes a review of the literature. The literature review should inform a research proposal, the findings of which will be summarised. You should also discuss your choice of methodology and outline your positionality in terms of potential bias and how you will mitigate this (meets all LOs).

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Demonstrate a systematic understanding of contemporary nursing theories, themes, constructs, and the evidence underpinning effective practice.
Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and evaluate research evidence pertaining to an agreed area of practice and apply this through the development of a research proposal.
Engage in critical inquiry which deals with complex information and deconstructs assumptions to make sound judgements within your field of practice on a chosen topic utilising a reflexive approach.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of research methodologies and the methods which underpin your proposal and provide a substantive rationale for their use.
