Practice assessment: - Completion of the practice assessment document and the ongoing record of achievement for this part (LO 1 & 3)
LO 1 is a Pass/Fail
LO 2+ 3 Episode of care X 2 -The practice assessor will assess the student completing two episodes of care in practice as directed by the practice assessment document
LO 4 Completion of written reflection. This will cover one theme from any of the platform 4,5 or 6 -

INDICATIVE CONTENT
Statutory and mandatory training (BLS, Moving & Handling)
Information Governance update and Infection Prevention and Control I (level two) Difficult conversations - Breaking bad news, responding to distress, using a family centred approach
Therapeutic interventions, identify needs, evidence-based assessments, care planning and shared goals in collaboration with the child, young person, family and multi-disciplinary team
Considering capacity and principles of informed consent in family centred care
Deteriorating Patient using a whole-body systems assessment, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular skin status
Robust history taking, monitoring, recording, and interpreting vital signs, recognising signs and symptoms of the deterioration and sepsis, escalation procedures and requesting additional investigations
Infusion pumps and monitoring devices
Signs of abuse in children and young people, including escalation procedures Wound care, assessing skin integrity,
Cannulation, Intravenous fluids, venepuncture
Bladder, bowel care and management – Catheterisation and Manual evacuation Respiratory care and airway management
Medicines management, administration, prescribing errors, adverse drug, reactions and impact of Polypharmacy over counter medication usage
Placement preparation and evaluation Numeracy and paediatric drug calculations Care of the dying child and young person
Acute and chronic pain management in children and young people with complex care needs The concept of spirituality and spiritual care using a patient and family centred approach Skills consolidation, coordinating care, leading and managing nursing care to improve safety and quality using a collaborative team approach
