Module Indicative Content
This module aims to develop competence in the core youth work and ministry skills of working with groups to facilitate the personal, social and educational development of young people. It begins with an introduction to one of the core methods / skills of youth work and ministry: working with groups. This method of intervention is considered from the different perspectives of psychology and sociology. An introduction is provided to the development of group dynamics and group work theory. The purpose of group facilitation is appraised and a range of approaches explored. Emphasis is placed upon the development of practical skills. Consideration is given to working positively with group dynamics, including establishing, maintaining and ending groups. The nature and role of leadership in youth work and ministry is considered and specifically related to the leadership and management of groups and teams.
