Module Indicative Content
This module aims to consider and join up the various sociological and concepts which impact work with children, families and young people in local communities. These include culture and subculture, faith and politics, power, empowerment and participation. Attention is given to issues of Social Diversity and Inclusion and development of Anti-Oppressive practice. The module begins with an overview of sociological dimensions, professional and theoretical considerations and an examination of historical understanding of communities. Students will be introduced to some research methods to enable them to carry out a community audit. They will be able to develop skills and methods in community action and development that are empowering for communities, children, families and young people and to provide opportunities to put what has been learnt into practice.
