Module Indicative Content
This module explores how the Old Testament may be understood and applied by Christians, and investigates linked topics in Christian theology. Several Old Testament literary genres are discussed by means of exegesis and interpretation of specific passages. Various ways of communicating and using the Bible in Christian ministry are considered. The theological topics of divinity, humanity and salvation are discussed in relation to influential historical and contemporary thinkers in the Christian church as well as wider philosophical and cultural movements.

Module Learning Strategies
300 hours, of which 50 will be lectures, tutorials and learning groups, a minimum of 80 fieldwork hours, and the rest directed/independent study. Lectures will involve a range of interactive teaching methods.
Concepts and debates are introduced through interactive lectures and discussed in groups. These are supported by hand-outs (many facts, personalities, movements and time periods are covered in this module) and explored in student directed tasks. Students are also directed to preparatory reading.
