Module Indicative Content
This module aims to train students in the development of quality work, curriculum design, and evaluation of projects, programme and services, building on their experience. It is concerned with the quality of youth work and ministry. Models of quality assurance and monitoring and evaluation methodologies are examined and assessed within the context of youth work and ministry theory, policy and the students' practice context. Total Quality Management is critiqued as are youth work assessment frameworks such as OFSTED, the National Occupational Standards for Youth Work in the UK, QCA and NVQ/OCN. Models of intervention associated with youth work and ministry, such as connexions, are examined and evaluated in the light of other policy, such as the Transforming Youth Work agenda. A variety of methodological approaches, useful in youth work and ministry, such as; the arts, multi-media and IT; crime/substance misuse prevention; health/environmental issues; sport and outdoor education; and international and development education are discussed. Attention is given to programme design and development that is tailored to the specific needs of young people. Students will present a quality assessment tool that they can relate to in the context of their youth work and ministry practice.
