Module Additional Assessment Details
Assignment (1): A critique of staff development decision making processes written in the style of a report. (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4)
Assignment (2): An annual project budget profiled monthly with an annual prior year comparison column and explanatory notes presented as an excel spreadsheet including appropriate formulas. (Learning Outcomes 5, 6)
Assignment (3): A Practice Recording on the communication of a management issue (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 6)

Professional competence in Level 2 will be assessed on a pass/fail basis, as the outcome of an assessment meeting with Line Managers, including review of the student's Professional Development Portfolio. A pass is required in order to complete Level 2, but it is zero-weighted. Guidelines for compilation of Professional Development Portfolio are found in the Student Handbook.
Module Indicative Content
This module aims to provide a theoretical framework and develop a range of practical skills appropriate to third sector / community project management. Areas given specific consideration include project management; people management, training and supervision; quality assurance and performance monitoring; financial planning and reporting; participation in the management of the organisation; management in the context of multi-professional and multi-agency settings; personnel issues and basic knowledge of employment law; awareness of external inspection regimes; support and supervision of staff and volunteers. Attention is given to the development of quality work, curriculum design, and evaluation of projects, programme and services tailored to the specific needs of children, young people and families. Consideration is given to the purposes and practices relevant to the recruitment, selection and induction of paid and voluntary staff. Models of quality assurance and monitoring and evaluation methodologies are examined within the context of the students' practice. Students are encouraged to develop professional competence and experience in the supervision, training and staff development of volunteer and paid staff in Christian ministry in and other settings. The theory and practice of team work and team management is considered and theological reflections are offered on the use of employees and volunteers in Christian youth ministry.
Module Learning Strategies
150 hours, of which 30 will be interactive lectures and learning groups, 75 fieldwork hours and the rest independent study.
