INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will cover concepts of professionalism, providing an understanding of attitudes and behaviours, the role of the Health and Care Professions Council and their standards of proficiency, standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
Legal and Ethical Factors will also be included, such as Health and Safety guidelines and legislation, duty of candour, consent, negligence, capacity, the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity legislation, confidentiality and safeguarding.
The concepts of accountability and responsibility will be discussed with the boundaries of practice alongside healthcare inequalities.

Barriers to communication
Health and safety in the peri-operative environment including COSHH, RIDDOR, information governance and incident reporting and other relevant guidelines and policies including NATSSIPS, LOCSSIPS, WHO checklist.
Communication will also be a key element to this module educating you on the importance of self-awareness, barriers to communication, making every contact count, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, active listening, empathy and how to deal with conflict.

1000 word assignment using a case study.
In this assessment you will be required to discuss the impact health/social inequality has on the patients care including the barriers to communication and strategies that may be used to overcome these barriers. Consider the relevant legal frameworks and your professional standards in relation to the case study.

This module’s focus is to introduce you to the professional context of the Operating Department Practitioner including concepts of professionalism, legal and ethical factors, and communication. This module will also give you an introduction into essay writing and assist in developing your academic study skills and writing at degree level.
