Indicative Content
In this practice module, you will apply the fundamental skills and knowledge developed in year one to a range of complex situations in the operating department. This will include delivering perioperative care in a range of specialised areas (e.g. ENT, obstetrics) as well as introducing recovery care. Due to the professional nature of this award, this module is supported by a range of clinical placements (arranged by the University).

Due to the professional nature of this award, students must pass all elements of assessment. No internal compensation will be allowed for this module.

Formative Assessment

PAD – Formative feedback from Practice Educators throughout the year.

Safe medicate –Access to formative daily safe medicate examinations

Reflection -You will receive a group tutorial and then will be entitled to submit 1 A4 size12 font essay draft/plan into a formative gate way for discussion at an individual tutorial. Please note marking is anonymous and the final marker may not be the same person giving the tutorial.

Final Assessments

Assessment in clinical practice is a requirement of the College of Operating Department Practitioners and the Health and Care Professions Council. To support the completion of the practice outcomes element of assessment, you will be allocated to clinical placements (some of which may be virtual or simulated) and you are expected to attend all assigned hours. This assessment will pull together all learning from year two and you will apply this directly to patient care in the operating department and use this time to help you complete the PAD

FINAL ASSESSMENT 2000-word Reflective Account (100%), meeting outcome 2
Reflection on development over 1 placement block and development of an action plan for future learning. Account must be presented in an appropriate scholarly format and use a reflective model

This will include delivering perioperative care in a range of specialised areas, such as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Obstetrics, as well as introducing recovery care. You will explore equipment used in specialist areas of anaesthesia and surgery. You will examine policies and procedures for deteriorating patients, and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. You will develop your knowledge and skills in medicines management and drug administration, drug calculations, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Paediatric Life Support (PLS). You will reflect on your professional and personal development, and how self-awareness and personal values and beliefs impact on patient care. Due to the professional nature of this award, this module is supported by a range of clinical placements (arranged by the University).
