Indicative Content
This module will include key themes such as reflection at Level 5, continuing professional
development and employability, and continue conversation and understanding of the link between personal wellbeing and professional practice. We will look at specific areas such as challenging behaviours in practice whilst maintaining dignity, respect and confidentiality and the principles of triage.
There will be sessions on depth of anaesthesia, entropy/bispectral index, neuro muscular blockade, simulations or simmersion based on feedback from practice placement debriefs, practice partners and emerging concepts.
The module will also explore basic counselling skills, resilience, inner child/perfectionism, how to support your peers whilst maintaining boundaries, via both theory and group work, and conflict resolution.
Additional Assessment Details
Summative assessment
Completion of a wellbeing and continuous professional development portfolio of evidence, for which a template will be provided. This portfolio will be submitted during semester 1. The wellbeing aspect of this assessment does not assess your wellbeing itself, but will focus upon how managing and supporting your own wellbeing contributes to your professional practice. (Learning Outcome 3)
A 2000 word written reflective assignment. This will constitute the graded aspect of this module and will be completed for submission in Semester 2. (Learning Outcome 2)
All clinical practice outcomes must be successfully achieved. This will be evidenced through your clinical practice document, which will be completed during your practice placements at this academic level and submitted in Semester 3. (Learning Outcome 1)
All learning outcomes must be met to meet the module outcomes and achieve 40 credits.
Formative
Your Academic Mentor/Link Tutor will review your electronic competency document at specified points throughout the year and provide feedback alongside clinical practice. Action plans will be completed if required to assist learning (Dates to be set by Module Leader)

Learning Strategies
Learning strategies for this module will include a mixture of simulation, clinical skills, lectures, seminars, group work, independent study, games, case studies and service users. This module also benefits from timetabled buddy/peer support sessions and both virtual and clinical placement hours linked to the 5 Stage Approach to learning.

Special Admissions Requirement
Students must have completed level 4 modules in accordance with the programme specification of their professional course, meeting the universities regulations for progression to level 5.
Web Descriptor
Clinical Practice, Wellbeing and Simulation Part 2 builds upon all that you have covered at Level 4. At this level, focus shifts to more challenging aspects of the role of the Operating Department Practitioner. This includes areas such as challenging behaviours in practice, supporting others whilst maintaining boundaries, continuous professional development and employability, this will be achieved through a combination of taught theory, simulation, virtual placement and traditional clinical placements.
