Indicatuve Content
This module will cover research ethics, research strategy: quantitative, qualitative or mixed, primary and secondary research, contextualising research, quantitative designs, qualitative designs and mixed methods. It will explore recruitment and sampling, data collection: questionnaires, interviews and focus groups, data analysis: quantitative and qualitative and cover understanding metrics and the collection/analysis of data to assess system reliability and clinical outcomes to support patient safety. There will be an opportunity to recap critical writing and how to correctly search for research papers. Throughout the module there will be an opportunity to showcase past or current research being undertaken by students, staff and trust partners.
Additonal Assessment Details
Summative assessment
This assessment covers all learning outcomes. You will be provided a selection of qualitative and quantitative research articles and must select one article from each category. You will write a 2500-word research critique of your chosen article.
Formative assessment
You can submit a completed proforma on a template provided, to formulate ideas and structure your critique (a formative portal will be available). You will be provided the opportunity to receive a one-to-one tutorial (30 minutes) to discuss your proforma. You will not be provided with any written feedback but will need to take notes during the tutorial. During the module content there will be opportunities for group/class tutorials.
Learning Strategies
Learning strategies for this module will include a mixture of lectures, quizzes, games, workbooks, presentations, pre-recorded sessions, a Q & A panel and independent learning.

Students must have completed level 4 modules in accordance with the programme specification of their professional course, meeting the universities regulations for progression to level 5.

This module will develop your awareness of the importance of research in Allied Health. The module will give you the opportunity to explore the features that make up a research paper and the ethical considerations in relation to professional standards. You will hear from staff, trust partners and students on their own personal research projects, past and present and have opportunities to ask questions.
