The module will explore care of patients ranging from children to the older population this includes – paediatric (child), obstetrics (maternity), bariatric (overweight) and geriatric (elderly) patients with emphasis on changing care needs and peri-operative care adjustments.

This module will cover pathophysiology, wound assessment and closure, and pressure sores.

There will be inclusion of evidence-based practice including current guidelines and an appreciation of social and environmental factors that impact co-morbidities with a service user conference to enhance knowledge.

Invasive monitoring will be introduced looking at arterial lines and central venous pressure (CVP) lines.

Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) anatomy will be covered, considering shared airway whilst also emphasising difficult airway and human factors and ergonomics relating to the operating department.

An introduction to Integrated Care Systems (ICS) will also be part of this module.

Assessment

Presentation based upon a case study of a patient with a comorbidity, determined by the student. – 20 minutes (plus 5 minutes of Question/Answers)

For this assessment you will have the option to undertake a live or pre-recorded presentation. Learners who submit a pre-recorded presentation will have a scheduled Q&A session with an assessor based on their recording.

Learning strategies for this module will include a mixture of lectures, seminars, group work, independent study, case studies and service user involvement.
