Assessment Details
Due to the professional nature of this award, students must pass all elements of assessment. No internal compensation will be allowed for this module.
Work-based assessment is a requirement of the College of Operating Department Practitioners, the Health and Care Professions Council and the Degree Apprenticeship Standard: Operating Department Practice Level 6. To support the completion of the practice outcomes element of assessment you will be allocated to clinical placements which total 768 hours. This assessment will pull together all learning from year three and you will apply this directly to patient care in the operating department.
The assessment for this module includes the following:
Drug Calculations Examination – This will meet Learning Outcome 4 and will test your ability to undertake calculation of drug dosages as relevant for patient care within the operating department.
Practice Outcomes Document – This practice portfolio will be signed off by your registered practice educators throughout your placement periods during your Level 6 study. It will consist of professional competencies relevant to the role of the operating department practitioner as set out by the Health & Care Professions Council and will meet Learning Outcomes 1, 3 & 4 of this module.
Reflective Assignment – This 2,500 word reflection will demonstrate your ability to critically reflect on your own practice and will draw on the experiences you have undertaken during your placement periods within the operating department environment.
Indicative Content
This is a work-based module which includes the development of advanced clinical skills and emergency care. You will participate in a range of work-based learning opportunities (organised by your employer) which will provide access to supporting emergency care. Due to the professional nature of the award, additional hours are allocated to this module to facilitate the development of the required range of clinical skills and knowledge.
