Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity for students to develop their experiential learning, and academic understanding of management and valuable study skills They are expected to both write about management and reflect upon their own skills as a learner.
By the end of the module students will have reflected and enhanced their understating of ten areas of management. These include:
- Managing self
- Management skills & competency
- Understanding organisations
- Managing change
- Managing activities
- Managing resources
- Developing people
- Managing people
- Communication
- Managing information
Students are asked to carry out a mixture of activities comparing the theories that they are reading with what is happening in the workplace. Some of the activities revisit those carried out in previous work-based learning contexts, others are designed to help the student develop their academic skills (critical reading, note-taking for a range of purposes, recognising and evaluating arguments and learning how to write clearly). Students will develop a new, more theoretical understanding of how and why managers do what they do in organisations. Students will have built a toolkit of management concepts, theories and models that they can use to tackle workplace issues.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for the module requires students to commit 300 learning hours (including assessment). However the learning strategy is student centred, with students applying newly developed academic skills to reflect on previous study and enhance their understanding at a higher academic level.
Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills as the module progresses.
There will be 12 hours of tutor support to monitor student progress and address arising from the assessment.
