Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 36 hours of class support and 114 hours of independent and self directed study.

The class sessions will include formal lectures, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.
Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to enable students to identify and critically discuss the sociological problems caused by prejudice and discrimination within society today. Students will also examine ethical aspects of public services with particular emphasis on provision and delivery.

This may include:

- The sociological problems caused by prejudice and discrimination
- The negative effects of prejudice and discrimination and their impact on public service provision
- The relationship between the management of diversity and equality and general management practice
- An examination of the social, political and legal aspects affecting equal opportunities and diversity management
- The role of organisations concerned with the management of equality and how they relate to relevant legislation
- Examining case studies of organisations where issues relating to discrimination have been identified
- Managing equality and diversity in a public services context
- Ethical aspects of public service and their role in provision and delivery
- The role and function of the organisation in the development, promotion and monitoring of equality and diversity management
- Particular reference will be made to changes in the Police Service with regard to ethics and diversity.
