Module Details
Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to extend knowledge and understanding of various management principles and to develop the application of these principles in the context of the learner?s industry. Content of the module includes:

- Principle of organisation structure - analyse the different types of structure and explore the concepts of span of control, chain of command, hierarchy, delegation and empowerment.
- Understand why structures often change over time as organisations grow and develop
- Corporate organisation - mission statements, corporate and strategic planning - policies and objectives, centralised and de-centralised organisations and the role of project-based team structures.
- Understand and apply various management tools
- Critical thinking skills
- Applying management principles
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent and self directed study. The class sessions will include formal lectures, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.

A reflective journal (2000 words) demonstrating the application of the skills gained to student?s business sector. (100%, Learning outcomes 1-3)
