Module Learning Strategies

The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 40 hours of academy study and 110 hours of independent and self directed study.

The academy sessions will include formal articles, student exercises, case study analysis and a presentation.
Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the academy as the module progresses.

Module Indicative Content

The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the process of developing and managing an organizational strategic plan and its importance to the sustainability and performance of a business enterprise. Students will also explore the role and contribution of sub-organizational or departmental plans to the whole organization. In an earlier module students will have looked at some of these issues in relation to business decision making. In this module students will look more closely at the elements and critical criteria within a strategic plan and how the details are developed. They will also look at methods for validating strategic thinking and for identifying and evaluating risk within plans and their implementation.
Subjects covered will include:
? Strategic Intent ? addressing development of statements on visions, missions, focus and strategies
? Strategic Capability ? addressing structures, processes, people and cultures
? Strategic Implementation ? addressing evaluation, validation, implementation and management
? Sources of data for planning ? internal and external
? Risk Management ? addressing analysis, assessment, evaluation, planning and management processes
? Contemporary Issues ? addressing developments and changes in environment, society, cultures, ethics and legal frameworks
?
