Module Indicative Content
This module will challenge students to consider the extent to which the successful achievement of aims and objectives within offender management services is dependent on strong, visionary leadership and effective management. Students will develop an awareness of essential tools used to establish, manage and monitor dynamic partnerships and organisations, and consider the fundamental importance of effective team, inter-professional and inter-agency working (in particular between third, public and private sectors) in the pursuit of common, overarching goals, e.g. reducing re-offending. They will explore the particular opportunities and challenges that arise during collaboration between individuals, groups, volunteers, public and independent organisations.
Students will also explore how leadership potential can be recognised and developed in diverse contexts and at all levels. They will need to evidence their own developing self-awareness through reflection on personal and professional development, and evaluate how their approach to leadership and management impacts their colleagues, peers and individual practice and performance.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 300 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 48 hours of class support and 252hours of independent and self directed study.
The class sessions will include formal lectures, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses

Summative
Strategic plan based on a case study (2,500 words) (70%) (Learning Outcomes 1 & 2)
Students will create a 12 month strategic plan either on their own organisational situation, relevant to their current or future work/volunteering or on information provided in an issued case study/scenario. This should outline: the strategic vision of the organisation, a mission statement, planning assumptions, aims, objectives and core themes. Students will be expected to demonstrate that their strategic decisions are supported by the use of management and analysis tools, e.g. PESTLE and SWOT.
Viva voce (15mins) (30%) (Learning Outcomes 2 & 3)
You will take part in a structured discussion with tutors in which you provide an individual, reflective account of your developing self-awareness, personal and professional development and demonstrate consideration of how your approach to leadership and management impacts their colleagues, peers, social care practice and performance
Formative feedback
Class and self directed learning activities will complement the weekly lectures to enable the student to develop their understanding of the ideas being introduced in the module. Students will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their assignment plans.
