Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module outlines the critical importance of sound human, physical and financial resource management within offender management services. Students will explore how criminal justice is funded, and the business environment of key organisations within this context, e.g. public and private prisons, Police Services, third sector organisations.

Key financial and other aspects, including business planning and essential accounting, will be discussed as students consider the challenges of building a solid rationale for business decisions regarding the allocation of finite resources, within the limits and frameworks of health and safety, professional codes of conduct and legislation, including employment and environmental law.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 18 hours of class support and 132 hours of independent and self directed study.

The class sessions will cover the key aspects of the module content, including a summary of the blended learning material, the type of formative feedback available both through the module website and the Module Tutor. The nature of the summative assessment will also be examined.

Students are expected to regularly engage with the blended learning material on the module website, by working through the material. This will include reading the material, undertaking additional research and formative exercises to reinforce the learning. Students will have additional support from the Module Tutor via email and phone.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Resource plan based on based either on the student's own organisational situation or on information provided in an issued case study/scenario. At the discretion of the Module Tutor (2,500 words) (100%) (Learning Outcomes 1 ¿ 3).

Students will develop a 12 month resource plan which will draw from aspeccts of resource planning, physical resource planning and financial planning.

Students will need to demonstrate that they have planned essential resources within budget and timescale, and have a sound rationale for business decisions.

Formative feedback

Class and self directed learning activities will complement the weekly lectures to enable the student to develop their understanding of the ideas being introduced in the module. Students will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their assignment plans.
