Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent, self directed study and portfolio preparation.
The class sessions will include formal lectures, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.
Module Indicative Content
This module has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop work based skills and apply academic concepts in a work environment.
Prior to the placement students will need to complete a needs analysis in relation to their identified strengths and areas for development in the context of a work environment. Targets will be set and efforts to achieve the targets should be made during the work based learning. In addition students should create a relevant and up to date CV. Students need to develop a strategy in order to acquire a suitable position, taking responsibility for identifying a suitable work based learning opportunity and taking action in order to secure this in the required time frame.
During the work based learning, the student will create a profile of the organisation, identifying key roles and responsibilities of the organisation and individuals within it, including identifying the necessary skills and abilities required by the employees.
At the end of the module, students will reflect on their placement, review their targets and identify how their strengths and areas for development have been addressed and their skills and knowledge enhanced. This will be done in conjunction with the mentor and module tutor.
