Learning Strategies
Scheduled learning and teaching activities: 36 hours in total
To consist of:
• 2 x 2 Days of block teaching, face-to-face which will include groupwork, formal teaching, case study analysis, guest speakers and students will be encouraged to share their workplace experiences with others
• 12 x 1 hour live webinars to take the form of tutorials involving opportunities for group discussion and presentation, flipped-classroom opportunities, further groupwork and case study analysis
Guided independent study: 164 hours in total
To consist of:
• Accessing additional online content such as videos and presentations
• Independent reading to consolidate knowledge gained in the formal teaching
• Undertaking formative tasks set by the tutor to consolidate learning
• Assessment preparation and writing and gathering evidence
• Portfolio building
• Would you add contribution to discussion forums?

The module is only open to those enrolled on the Operational/Departmental Manager Higher Apprenticeship programme or the University Diploma in Leadership & Management
Learning Outcomes
1. You will be able to explain how you have used your knowledge of your own learning and behavioural styles as well as that of others to create your own personal development plan and one for a team member that is talented. Indicative Content
This module is designed to encourage learners to understand and improve their own performance in the workplace. It is also designed to cover the following sections of the Apprenticeship Standard for Operational/Departmental Managers:
Communication:
K7.1 - Understand interpersonal skills and different forms of communication and techniques (verbal, written, non-verbal, digital) and how to apply them appropriately.
Management of Self:
• S9.1 - Able to create a personal development plan.
Awareness of Self and Others:
K8.1 - Understand own impact and emotional intelligence.
K8.2 - Understand different and learning and behaviour styles.
S8.1 - Able to reflect on own performance, working style and its impact on others.
Web Descriptor
This module is intended to encourage you to objectively consider your own interpersonal skills and how these may impact your performance and that of your team We also consider personal and professional development planning and look at the options available for formal and informal learning.

Additional assessment details
Reflection (50% weighting)
Students are required to submit a 2,000-word reflection about their own performance. This may include reference to emotional intelligence, learning style, working style, leadership style, personal brand, and impact on others, amongst other underpinning theory-based questionnaires. The reflection should inform the PDP.
The reflection will address Learning Outcome 2 and 3, and the following assessment criteria from the apprenticeship standard:
K8.1 - Understand own impact and emotional intelligence
K8.2 - Understand different and learning and behaviour styles
S8.1 - Able to reflect on own performance, working style and its impact on others
B4.1 - Sets an example, and is fair, consistent and impartial
B4.2 - Open and honest
B4.3 - Operates within organisational values
Component 2: Presentation (50% weighting) [FINAL]
Students are required to present for 20 minutes (10 minutes of which will be the presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion) summarising a comprehensive Personal Development Plan (PDP) based around specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound objectives. Students may wish to follow CMI’s template for the PDP, available here. The PDP should be informed by your reflection in component 1.
The presentation will address Learning Outcome 1 and 4, and the following assessment criteria from the apprenticeship standard:
K7.1 - Understand interpersonal skills and different forms of communication and techniques (verbal, written, non-verbal, digital) and how to apply them appropriately.
S9.1 - Able to create a personal development plan.
B1.4 - Seeks new opportunities.
B2.2 - Seeks the views of others and values diversity.
B3.4 - Open to new ways of working.
