Indicative Content
This module is designed to introduce learners to the responsibilities of managing and leading people. It is also designed to cover the following sections of the Apprenticeship Standard for Operational/Departmental Managers:

Managing People:
Effective recruitment and selection
Learning and development
Performance management and developing high performing teams
Managing multiple teams
Delegation and delivery through others

Leading People:
Understanding the application of different leadership styles
Leading remote teams
Development using coaching and mentoring
Organisational culture
A leader’s role in equality, diversity and inclusion

Building Relationships:
Stakeholder Management
Negotiation and influencing skills
Internal and external networking
Collaborative working techniques
Understanding and managing conflict

This module is intended to prepare you for a management position in your organisation, giving you the skills required to manage people and processes, build relationships inside and outside of your organisation and improve your organisation’s performance by your leadership, vision and your ability to influence.


Learning Strategies

Scheduled learning and teaching activities: 36 hours in total. To consist of:
2 x 2 Days of block teaching, face-to-face which will include groupwork, formal teaching, case study analysis, guest speakers and students will be encouraged to share their workplace experiences with others
12 x 1 hour live webinars to take the form of tutorials involving opportunities for group discussion and presentation, flipped-classroom opportunities, further groupwork and case study analysis

Guided independent study: 164 hours in total. To consist of:
Accessing additional online content such as videos and presentations
Independent reading to consolidate knowledge gained in the formal teaching
Undertaking formative tasks set by the ttor to consolidate learning
Assessment preparation and writing and gathering evidence
Portfolio building

The module is only open to those enrolled on the Operational/Departmental Manager Higher Apprenticeship programme or the University Diploma in Leadership & Management
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A 3,500 word report (70%) covering aspects of leadership and management that relate to the Apprenticeship Standard. Supporting evidence (30%) will be included and will meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship Portfolio.
