Module Details
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT

Leadership as a concept and practice that challenges us in our personal and working lives. This module introduces key theoretical approaches to leadership, examines how this translates into practice, and explores some of the key skills demanded in leading and managing others.

Issues may include, but not be limited to:
Trait, Behavioural, Contextual and Relational theories of Leadership
The role of communication in leadership
Theories of motivation, engagement and commitment
Coaching and mentoring as a leadership practice
Values-based leadership and organisational values
The role of leadership in the development of high performance working
Role of Leadership in creating effective organisational cultures
Role of leadership in dealing with workplace conflict.

It is also designed to cover the following sections of the Apprenticeship Standard for Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship:

Leading People:
Different inclusive leadership styles and models, how to develop teams and support people using coaching and mentoring approaches
Organisational culture and diversity management
Articulate organisational purpose and values
Support the creation of an inclusive, high performance work culture
Enable others to achieve by developing and supporting them through coaching and mentoring

MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Reflective log: Three critical incidents of leadership which you have personally been involved in, should be identified relating to the following areas of focus:
1) An example where you have supported a team or team member through the use of coaching or mentored intervention
2) An example of where you have articulated the organisational culture through focussing on its values and purpose
3) An example of where you have supported the creation of an inclusive, high performing work culture
You should also include evidence of all of the above, which can be included as appendices.

Poster presentation: Your poster should focus on academic theory relating to leadership styles which are appropriate to the way in which your organisation functions. You should critically analyse whether or not these leadership styles are effective in driving the performance of the organisation and you should make recommendations for change, specifically in relation to the culture and diversity of the organisation.
MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES

Scheduled learning and teaching activities: 64 hours

To consist of:
Face-to-face which will include group work, formal teaching, case study analysis, guest speakers and students will be encouraged to share their workplace experiences with others
On-line live webinars to take the form of tutorials involving opportunities for group discussion and presentation, flipped-classroom opportunities, further group work and case study analysis

Guided independent study: 336 hours

To consist of:
Accessing additional on-line content such as videos and presentations
Independent reading to consolidate knowledge gained in the formal teaching
Undertaking formative tasks set by the tutor to consolidate learning
Assessment preparation and writing and gathering evidence
Portfolio building
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the central concepts of the field of leadership, and the limitations and uncertainties still associated with the subject
2. Understand the methods of development of people and teams, and critically evaluate their appropriateness in your organisation
3. Evaluate theories of organisational culture and interpret these in relation to your own organisation
4. Apply appropriate concepts of leadership and related fields to the management of diversity within the context of your own organisation
