Module Resources
For Clinical Osteopathy 1 the key physical resource is the clinical environment provided by the College. The majority of teaching for clinical modules is delivered in the Osteopathic Teaching Clinic where there is access to all the necessary equipment and learning resources within an environment that meets standards specified and inspected by the General Osteopathic Council and Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.

The limited number of taught sessions are supported and developed by 100 hours of clinical practice, spread over the two-semester period. Activities will include observing peers and tutors interacting with patients, small group presentations, and discussions. Structured or semi-structured tutorials either in groups or individually
Module Additional Assessment Details
All elements of the module assessment must be passed in order to complete the module.

Summative:
Case Presentation (10 minutes) to peers - 50%
Reflective Clinical Assessment - completed within the teaching clinic by a clinic tutor, based on reflections in the clinic log book of patient observations - 50%

Learning outcomes 2 and 4 are assessed in the case presentation to peers.
Learning outcomes 1,3 and 5 are assessed in the reflective clinical assessments.

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative: Case presentation and business plan within the classroom setting.


Module Indicative Content
This module aims to give the students their first experience in the clinical environment, and an introduction to appropriate clinical behaviours, including how to interact effectively with peers and clinical staff. The module also aims to introduce business planning skills to students, enabling them to becoming a self-employed sole trader within their first year of study. The module covers:
- An introduction to the clinical environment, and to the practice of osteopathy.
- Role of Health and Safety in the clinical setting.
- Personal skills in professional practice.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reflective practice
- Business Planning Skills
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Admission requirements for students are that they have enhanced disclosure clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau, that they have fulfilled the criteria set out in the Fitness To Practice form (updated and completed annually) and that they have completed the Clinic Induction which includes the issuing of clinic log books (with clinic procedures and the code of conduct) and clinic uniform.
