Module Details
Module Indicative Content
The aim of the module is to ensure progression from the knowledge base acquired through level four studies. Students need to become increasingly proficient in examination, articulatory techniques and case analysis presentation, using knowledge about pathological changes in the body systems gained previously.
Osteopathic examination will be reviewed. Refinement of osteopathic technique including indications and contra-indications of a wide range of technique styles will be covered. The students will be guided through methods available to modify their range of techniques for safety and to explore the variety of situations and cases in which osteopathic healthcare might be relevant.

Osteopathic diagnosis of somatic dysfunction within the body, especially through utilising palpation as an examination tool in a range of altered tissue states
Osteopathic examination review. Performing osteopathic biomechanical assessment and medical screening examinations in the clinical setting, taking account of sensitivity to the patient/ tissue needs.
Articulatory techniques - appendicular and spinal techniques.
Personal skills in professional practice.
Case history taking and recording details accurately.
Module Additional Assessment Details
PRACTICAL 50% Learning outcomes 1, 2 & 3 are assessed in the practical exam
COURSEWORK (1500 words) 50% Learning outcome 4 & 5 are assessed via a case history essay
