Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
- Presentation of the main concepts and perspectives of natural therapeutics from a wide range of opinions and authors.
- Comparison of the naturopathic and allopathic paradigms, with particular reference to the concepts of health and disease and their influence on osteopathic practice
- Analysis of concepts of health and healthcare from sociological, historical and ethical perspectives.
- Principles and basic rules of nutrition with an overview of the major nutrients and their functions, the physiological effects of nutrition and fasting and the economical, social and cultural constraints of food production and provision.
- Nutritional aspects of disease and analysis of how to maintain health, prevent disease and restore health through sensible eating.
- Introduction to counselling and psychology.
- Empathy and advanced listening skills, utilising an experiential approach linked with a theoretical basis.
- Presentation of the principles, indications and contraindications behind the use of water in hydrotherapy treatments.
- Physical health and the physiological need for exercises and relaxation

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative :
50% 2-hour Written Examination - assesses LOs 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6
50% Coursework 1500 Word Essay - assesses LO’s 1&3

All elements of the module assessment must be passed in order to complete the module


Formative:
Students will be required to contribute to an in-class formative class discussion with peers.
