INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of the module is to give the students the opportunity to take responsibility for the clinical assessment and osteopathic treatment of real patients within the clinical environment. It is at this stage where they will be given the opportunity to take an osteopathic case history, present the case history to a tutor, and to present and perform a thorough osteopathic examination plan, based on the information gleaned and interpreted in the case history. With the support and supervision of senior students and tutors they will also apply aspects of osteopathic case management relevant to this level of study, including techniques such as basic manipulation of joints, as well as diet and lifestyle advice.

The module covers:
Personal skills in professional practice.
Case history taking and recording details accurately.
Performing osteopathic biomechanical assessment and medical screening examinations in the clinical setting, taking account of sensitivity to the patient/ tissue needs.
Developing rationales, prioritisation and justification with guidance.
Promotion of health education where applicable and the need for the holistic approach, regarding the patient in the context of psycho-social and environmental factors.
Indications and contra-indications for osteopathic practice and specific techniques.

Module Learning Strategies
Clinical Osteopathy is a complex undertaking central to the course, with the award of MOSt/BOst ultimately being determined by the Final Clinical Competency examination in CO5/6. Therefore all other year 1, 2 & 3 modules support Clinical Osteopathy 3 where these concepts and skills are integrated into real life practice within the controlled environment of the College clinics.
