Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
Approximately 400 hours will comprise of ambulance practice learning experiences, under the supervision of a paramedic practice educator or other qualified paramedic. During the experience, students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, analysis, communication, application, and problem-solving abilities, in the areas appropriate to this level of study.

Approximately three weeks will comprise of alternative practice learning experiences in a range of alternative practice settings and/or simulation. These experiences will provide students with the knowledge and understanding of wider health service, multi-disciplinary working, and the developing role of paramedic practice. In each of these practice areas, students will be under the supervision of an appropriate practice supervisor and will interact with a wide range of service users.

At level 5, study areas include, but are not limited to:

Risk assessment and management
Advancing communication skills
Advancing history taking
Advancing patient assessment
Advancing interpretation of assessment findings and formulating differential diagnoses
Adapting clinical techniques in accordance with service user needs and the clinical and environmental situation
Collaborative and multi-disciplinary working
Advancing clinical decision making
The implementation of treatment and management plans
Use of referral pathways
Human factors
Advanced Life Support inc. ROLE, DNAR and Advanced Decisions
Therapeutic interventions
Interprofessional working
Application of guidelines
Application of professional standards

Areas of focus are identified as relevant ‘competencies’ within the Practice Assessment Document (PAD).
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
PRACTICE ASSESSMENT DOCUMENT- (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5).

Contains a range of formative and summative clinical competencies which are completed under supervised practice. To achieve the competencies, students need to demonstrate knowledge and application of a range of skills. The competencies cover all learning outcomes and is given a pass/fail mark. All summative competencies need to be achieved to obtain a pass mark for the module.

VIVA VOCE – (Learning Outcome 4)

A 20-minute oral examination based on a given case study relating to a patient safety incident.

N.B The 20 minutes will include time for questions.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Approximately 400 hours will comprise of ambulance practice learning experiences, under the supervision of a paramedic practice educator or other qualified paramedics. During the experience, students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, communication, application, and problem-solving abilities, in the areas appropriate to this level of study.

Approximately three weeks will comprise of alternative practice learning experiences in a range of alternative practice or simulated settings. These experiences will provide students with the knowledge and understanding of wider health service, multi-disciplinary working, and the developing role of paramedic practice. In each of these practice areas, students will be under the supervision of an appropriate practice supervisor and will interact with a wide range of service users.

Students are also expected to conduct independent study as required throughout the placement periods, to ensure they have the knowledge and understanding required to achieve the competencies. They should also reflect on their practice to identify areas that require further development.

WEB DESCRIPTOR
Building from year 1, you will continue to work under supervised practice in the clinical and/or simulated environment. You will develop your assessment, treatment, and management of patients, alongside your communications skills. This will provide hands-on experience, where you will need to demonstrate your core knowledge and understanding in a dynamic environment.
