Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to develop an awareness of contemporary paramedic practice in line with standards set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (2018). Paramedics are required to make complex independent decisions in urgent and emergency care settings. This module will seek to increase and develop knowledge in a range of progressive themes.

The content considered during this module will include areas such as:

• Contemporary leadership theories and leadership qualities, self-awareness,
• Clinical governance,
• Accountability
• Continued Professional Development (CPD)
• Concepts of mentorship
• Human factors and ergonomics – Clinical Hierarchies and Teamwork
• Integrated care delivery and collaborative working
• Psychosocial determinants of health
• Local and national policy its impact on practice and the practice of others (inc safeguarding)
• Evaluation of ethical legal and professional issues which inform and shape practice
• A review of health informatics
• The impact of changing demographics on healthcare
• Organisational change
• Public health strategy and paramedic practice
Assessment Details
The assessment for this module is a 30-minute Oral Presentation critically analysing the value of leadership in pre-hospital care. You will be expected to draw from contemporary sources, gathering evidence to address all learning outcomes and the relevant issues they include.

The aim of the assessment is to develop knowledge and application of leadership, to inform and develop future practice.

This assignment is weighted at 100% of the marks for this module and covers all four learning outcomes.

Due to the professional nature of this programme no compensation within or between modules is permitted. All elements of assessment in all modules must be passed
Learning Strategies
Theory content will be introduced via lead lectures (approx. 60 hours). You will be taught by the paramedic team and some guest lecturers for specialist themes.

Group work (approx. 12 hours) will be utilised to develop collaboration and critical thinking skills. This will include classroom-based discussion as well as online asynchronous discussions.

You will also take part in formative presentations, helping to develop your presentation skills prior to the summative assessment.

You will be expected to undertake self-directed study (approx. 228 hours) to develop independent learning, enrich your knowledge and understanding, and to prepare for assessments.
