ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1
Teaching & Learning Design Project
Weighting: 50%
Assesses module learning outcome 1.
In this assessment, you should develop a structured teaching lesson plan for paramedic learners.
You will produce a micro teaching lesson plan that outlines learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, assessment or feedback methods, and considerations for inclusivity and accessibility. Your lesson should be appropriate for use within paramedic education and demonstrate the use of suitable pedagogical approaches for diverse learners in healthcare.
Assessment 2
Critical Analysis
Weighting: 50%
Assesses module learning outcome 3
You will then critically analyse your lesson plan, explaining and justifying your design choices using educational theory, professional standards, and contemporary educational frameworks. In this analysis, you must critically evaluate key principles of practice education and demonstrate how these have informed your approach. You should also show how your lesson design supports ongoing professional development and lifelong learning as an HCPC-registered paramedic.
Rationale:
This assessment prepares you for the transition to autonomous professional practice by enabling you to understand how teaching, assessment and feedback shape learning in clinical environments. It develops the ability to support learners effectively, a key expectation of the HCPC and the contemporary paramedic role.
Assessment 3
Employability Portfolio
Weighting: 0% (Pass/Fail)
Assesses module learning outcome 2.
You will create a portfolio that demonstrates the professional behaviours, skills, and knowledge required for entry onto the HCPC register. The portfolio will include:
Professional CV and Supporting Statement
Digital Professional Identity Task
HCPC aligned CPD Activities X 3
Teaching and Learning Design Plan (Part 1 from assessment 1)
Career Development Plan
INDICATIVE CONTENT
1. Pedagogical Theories and Learning Environments
Contemporary learning theories relevant to healthcare education (constructivism, social learning, experiential learning, cognitive load theory).
Designing learning environments for diverse learners, including neurodiversity, cultural difference, and variable clinical experience.
Aligning pedagogy with learning needs in practice settings (simulation, supervised practice, blended learning).
Facilitating safe, supportive and inclusive learning cultures.
2. Assessment and Feedback for Practice-Based Learning
Assessment principles in clinical education: validity, reliability, fairness, transparency.
Selecting assessment methods suitable for practice-based learning (direct observation, workplace-based assessment, structured feedback tools).
Feedback approaches to enhance performance, confidence and skill acquisition (formative feedback, coaching, feedforward, reflective dialogue).
Supporting learners in applying feedback to improve practice.
3. Educational Strategies for Resilience and Professional Growth
Evidence-informed strategies to support learner resilience, self-efficacy and wellbeing in demanding clinical environments.
Coaching, mentoring and supervised practice models for progressing autonomy.
Promoting reflective practice to enhance ongoing professional development.
Creating psychologically safe learning environments and recognising barriers affecting learner progress.
Content includes contemporary pedagogical theories, assessment and feedback approaches, and evidence-based strategies that promote learner resilience and development within practice-based paramedic education.
WEB DESCRIPTOR
Develop the confidence, capability and educational insight needed to support others as you step into autonomous paramedic practice.
This module explores how effective teaching, assessment and feedback enhance learning in clinical environments. You will apply contemporary educational theories, evaluate assessment approaches and design evidence-informed strategies that promote learner resilience and professional growth. By understanding how to support diverse learners, you will strengthen your readiness for practice leadership and mentorship in the dynamic pre-hospital setting
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Learning within this module focuses on developing the educational capabilities required for autonomous paramedic practice. Teaching will be delivered through lectures, seminars, workshops and case-based discussions that introduce key pedagogical theories, assessment approaches and evidence-informed strategies for supporting learners in clinical environments.
A central component of this module involves the design, analysis, and evaluation of a learning plan. This authentic learning experience enables you to apply educational theory to practice, select and justify appropriate teaching methods, and consider the needs of diverse learners within healthcare contexts.
Digital learning resources within the VLE will support independent study and introduce theoretical concepts ahead of taught sessions, allowing face-to-face time to focus on application, reflection and collaborative design. Structured formative tasks and reflective activities will guide you in developing educational strategies that enhance learner resilience, wellbeing and ongoing professional development.
Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to synthesise evidence, professional standards and practice-based insight to inform your teaching and learning design project.
