Module Indicative Content
This module is designed to enable you to further develop your drum skills and refine your repertoire. It requires you to demonstrate a clear purpose and vision for your artistic expression, taking personal responsibility for choosing an appropriate collection of songs, making decisions with regards to planning and organising a solo performance event, and also the development of marketing material such as photographs, business cards, single and/or album and merchandise design.

It is important for drummers to have a clear idea of the demographic that they are aiming to appeal to. This is particularly important when working with a record company, as they will have a demographic and fan base in mind for you as soon as you sign to their label. It is important to also consider how to appeal beyond your demographic as this will increase ticket sales for shows and income via royalties. This module will help you to identify your target market.

Self-awareness as an entertaining artist is intrinsically important, as is ensuring your audience is not alienated. This applies whether you are playing a small acoustic show or on a large-scale tour. Through this module you will explore how to become more self-aware and the techniques you can apply in order to involve your audience during a solo performance.
You will continue to develop your drumming prowess through a combination of practical exercises, personalised workshops, self-directed learning and visits from practitioners. This module will help you to refine all aspects of your performance technique, preparing you for record company showcases and working as a professional within the industry. You will refine your practice regime, your repertoire and stage technique, responding constructively to feedback.

The module will culminate in a 25 minute live solo performance to an audience, through which you will perform a repertoire of songs chosen by you for the purpose of presenting yourself with a personal style and artistic direction as a drummer. This will be your opportunity to have a clear definition and make a statement of who you are and who you want to be as a drummer. Additionally, you will be expected to identify opportunities for promotion whether it is recorded songs, live performance and accompanying marketing material. Furthermore, you will articulate an understanding of a clear target to appeal to a fan base and demographic, identifying the individuals that this is going to appeal to, with the hope of reaching beyond.

You will develop a greater appreciation for the way other roles are required to support you as a drummer and through your planning and performance you will engage with others in a professional manner.
Module Learning Strategies
Strategies in this module are active and practically focussed allowing you to refine your drum skills and extend your repertoire through rehearsal and live performance. Learning activities are intended for you to make sense of your prior learning in a professional work related context and to build confidence and professional integrity. You will continue to learn from others by exploring existing work and by making connections with the tasks you have been set. These tasks will challenge you to combine and refine your abilities through discovery and problem solving. The assignment will require you to engage in independent learning and there will be an expectation throughout this module that you approach this requirement proactively in order that your progress is not hindered.

Learning will be facilitated through the following:

¿ Analysis of drummers in terms of performance, charisma and personality
¿ Artist demographic study
¿ Artistic self-awareness, market awareness and promotion workshop
¿ Performance rehearsal exercises and presentation skills workshops
¿ Audience interaction exercises with critiques
¿ Performance recordings and playbacks supported by formative feedback
¿ Opportunities to interact with visiting practitioners
¿ Live performance to audience
¿ Individual tutorials
