MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
1. Vlog and Performance Statement (70%) [L.O.s 1,2,3]
A vlog-based assessment which showcases your application of dance performance skills throughout the module through a series of contrasting performances that respond to given briefs. Each performance will include a short context statement to introduce the genre and target audience.
2. Critical Review (30%) [L.O.4]
A critical review of your performance practice and practical skills application. Submitted as either a written review or viva voce (negotiated with the module tutor), the review will allow you to reflect upon your technical ability in relation to each genre, and analyse the appropriateness of your performance across contrasting styles and contexts.
All individually assessed.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
As a performer, you need to have the ability to work across multiple dance genres and apply your skills accordingly. Alongside your regular skills-based dance classes you will engage with choreographic tasks and processes that enable you to re-apply your dance skills and class-based content in a range of contexts. You will capture the footage of each of these mini-performance tasks to collate a portfolio of dance performance footage.

This module will be assessed through a vlog portfolio of performances of short, choreographed dance routines that will assess your skill in applying appropriate technique for the intended styles. It will introduce you to the professional practice of dance and to a diverse range of dance styles, techniques and approaches that enable the performer to perform appropriately and effectively. Styles covered will include Musical Theatre, Dance, Jazz, Contemporary, Commercial and Tap and performance tasks will range from commercial music videos and/or TV commercials to character dance and musical theatre ensemble performance.

Balancing theory with practice, learning in this module will be supported by mixed mode teaching sessions and independent research, through to structured technical workshops, dance classes and rehearsals, allowing you to experiment in the application of these dance styles and approaches for the development of your own dance ability. You will be expected to participate in group discussion and collaborative practical activities for the development and experimentation of choreography comparing and contrasting styles.
Practical dance assessments may include solo, duo or ensemble work and therefore strong elements of teamwork are expected to be demonstrated within sessions. You will learn about reflective theory and how to apply it in order to analyse your own dance development and responses to given choreography and/or choreographic briefs

Within this module you will be expected to rehearse and reproduce the choreography set and this will be the basis of your formal assessment.

The module content and teaching within the module will reflect Wilkes Academy standards around safe practice, wellbeing and consent. The content will be delivered in line with safeguarding and positive touch policies.
