ASSESSMENT 2: Presentation delivered to a staff and industry panel, this will include an oral reflection on the experience appraising your work as well as a critical understanding and enquiry around a topic of your choice, drawing on any portfolio and diary reflections also, followed by a Q and A. [LO2]

All individually assessed.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will allow you to embrace a professional work experience placement, the content and form of which is negotiated with your academic mentor and the module co-ordinators.

You will be developing your professional networks through initiating and negotiating your own work experience project where you will deepen your knowledge, reflect on your development, and apply your skills through being immersed in a professional setting in the creative, digital or humanities sectors.

You are encouraged to see your possible placement as one that could be taken regionally, nationally or even internationally or virtually embracing different modes of working available to you. This could be in public, private, community or voluntary/charitable sectors: from educational establishments, media and film companies, publishing houses, television, audio and radio companies, music studios, labels, agencies, libraries, theatre and other arts and cultural organisations, or even within the university itself. We will encourage you to think broadly to find a work experience or work-based learning opportunity that works for you and that aligns with your ethos and personal values.

We would expect you to undertake between 40 and 60 hours. This could be in a block, spread over several weeks, in holidays or a mixture.

Alongside the work experience, you will work with staff from across the School to create a professional portfolio that is personal and meaningful to you and your career aspirations and/or postgraduate aims. This would be primarily digital, embracing and building your online branding, accompanied by physical artefacts if required by your field. The form of your portfolio will be negotiated as part of the module, identifying your professional attributes in terms of skills aligned to your area and practice.

Your final piece of work will allow you to articulate to a target audience your skills and learning from your work experience and by evaluating your experience, you will understand the needs of the industry and align this to your own beliefs, values, knowledge and skills.
