Module Learning Strategies
At the beginning of each semester, a meeting will be convened for all students on the module and all tutors. At this meeting, priorities will be agreed and general plans formulated. Part of the purpose of these early meetings is to introduce to students strategies for planning and managing projects. A broad schedule will negotiated for each student. This schedule will be devised so as to minimise the load on students near assessment deadlines for other modules.
Each student will be assigned one supervisor for the module, and will meet the supervisor at at a fixed time each week. The purpose of these meetings could be one or all of the following: (i) to review and evaluate progress made on projects previously; (ii) to formulate plans for addressing the next tasks; (iii) to impart knowledge and skills necessary to completion of tasks (e.g. polite and professional ways of inviting speakers, how to organise a stimulating event for secondary ed students, how to get information about upcoming conferences, etc.); (iv) where necessary, agree changes to the broad schedule agreed at the beginning of the term.
