Module Learning Outcomes
1. Plan effectively for a small-scale research project or piece of independent academic work. Reflection, enquiry, analysis, problem solving.
Module Additional Assessment Details

The coursework required for assessment will require students take a piece of work they have already completed for the MA and reflect on:
how they selected their question
how they would change the work if they were to do it again
how they identified the resources they used (e.g. what library searches, what online resources, what indexes, etc.).

The coursework will also include:
a brief literature review of resources they used for the work (approx. 1500 words).
demonstration that they have reflected on issues relating to research ethics (if online training becomes available, students can demonstrate that they have completed it).
Module Indicative Content
The module will cover topics that are essential to planning and carrying out effective research. These will include:

¿ Planning research.
¿ Identifying a research question.
¿ Breaking down your research into doable steps – objectives.
¿ Finding resources.
¿ What is a literature review and how to do one.
¿ Editing your work.
¿ Research ethics.
¿ Research and your professional development.
Module Web Descriptor
How do you plan and prepare a good research project? This module will explain the essential steps to good research and give you an opportunity to practice taking them. Topics covered will include planning, researching resources, preparing a literature review, research ethics, and editing your own work.
Module Learning Strategies
The module is wholly DL. A selection of resources will be provided, including: tutor notes, tutor videos, examples of good practice, relevant literature and links to online resources. Tasks will be set for and formative feedback and tutorial guidance will be provided by one-to-one tutorial meetings via Blackboard (or Teams) at two key points in the semester. A student-centred discussion board, monitored by the tutor, will provide a forum for peer to peer support and learning
