Module Additional Assessment Details
The coursework required for assessment will require students take a piece of work they have already completed for the MA and reflect on:
¿ how they selected their question
¿ how they would change the work if they were to do it again
¿ how they identified the resources they used (e.g. what library searches, what online resources, what indexes, etc.).
The coursework will also include:
¿ a brief literature review of resources they used for the work (approx. 1500 words).
¿ demonstration that they have reflected on issues relating to research ethics (if online training becomes available, students can demonstrate that they have completed it).
Module Indicative Content
The module will put into practice the learning achieved in Dissertation Planning I in order to prepare a literature review and proposal for the forthcoming MA Dissertation. It will include:
¿ Identifying a research question
¿ Carrying out a literature review
¿ Refining the research question
¿ Breaking the research question down into doable steps – objectives
¿ Writing a proposal
¿ Completing the research ethics process.
Module Descriptor
This module is all about you planning your dissertation, carrying out a literature review, and preparing your proposal. You will be supported in doing this by regular contact with your tutor. By the end of the module you will be well-prepared and ready to go.
Module Learning Strategies
The module is wholly DL. Resources provided for Dissertation Planning I will continue to be relevant and useful. Students will be provisionally assigned a supervisor who will work with them through the semester as they prepare a proposal. Communication and a record of progress will be managed via the Journal function on Blackboard. There will also be a discussion board for students taking this module to provide peer to peer learning and support.
