Module Details
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Carry out a research project in which you evaluate ideas and approaches to a problem relevant to the MA and develop you own interpretation of this problem.
2. Advance your knowledge and understanding through a programme of independent research.
3. Organise an independent project coherently and communicate complex ideas clearly.
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1. 1) Knowledge and understanding. 2) Learning. 3) Enquiry. 4) Analysis. 5) Problem solving. 6) Communication. 7) Application. 8) Reflection.

The Research Project combines all the Learning Outcomes. Students will be expected to identify a topic themselves and to carry out independent research with the support of a supervisor. The Research Project may take the form of a traditional theory-based written dissertation, but where appropriate it may involve elements such as reports, video presentations, or other digital artefacts compatible with interdisciplinary research and digital communication.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
Students will carry out a research project that they have chosen for themselves, with the approval of an allocated supervisor. It will be based on the proposal developed in the module Research Skills.
WEB DESCRIPTOR
This is your opportunity to put what you have learnt to use as you develop a project that you have chosen your self. You will work independently with the support of an allocated supervisor to develop an original piece of well researched and well evidenced writing which may address the material you’ve covered on the MA directly or take that material and apply it to gain new insights into a problem. As the work progresses you will develop valuable skills in research, managing a project, and communicating your ideas.
MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES
Students will begin the module with a draft research proposal already in place (developed in the module Research Skills). While this may need some refining and development, it will provide a useful starting point. In consultation with an allocated supervisor, students will plan a programme of work to complete the project in a timely way. This will involve carrying out further research, writing, and revising their work effectively. While most of this research will be carried out independently, students will be expected to update a record of their work in a Journal on Blackboard, where tutors can keep track of progress. Tutors will provide feedback on this at regular intervals, and as the work develops will provide feedback on drafts of the research project itself.
MODULE TEXTS
The texts will be specific to the research project.
